Complete Guide with ReDeploy for Hardware Migration
🎯 Goal
Create a full system image of your Windows 11 (C: drive) — including all installed apps, settings, registry, environment variables, and system preferences — so it can be restored on the same or different hardware (even a new PC).
⚙️ 1. What Macrium Reflect Does
Creates a complete image backup of a partition or entire disk (C: drive in your case)
Includes:
✅ Windows system files
✅ Installed applications & configurations
✅ Registry & environment variables
✅ AppData (preferences, cache)
✅ Boot configuration (MBR/GPT, EFI)
Excludes (optional): Large user files (Documents, Videos, etc.) if you only image C: and not other drives
💾 2. How to Create System Image Backup
1 Installation
Macrium Reflect 8.1.8631 (Home or Workstation Edition) Note: ReDeploy is only available in paid editions, not Free.
2 Create Backup
Open Macrium Reflect → "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows"
Choose D: drive or an external HDD/SSD (recommended)
4 Options
Compression: Medium
Verify image after creation: ✅
Add comments (e.g., "Windows Dev Environment – Oct 2025")
5 Execute
Click "Finish" → "Run this backup now"
💡 Pro Tip: Store your backup on an external drive and keep it in a safe location.
🧰 3. Create Rescue USB (Bootable Recovery Media)
1 Access Rescue Media Creator
In Macrium Reflect, go to: Other Tasks → Create Rescue Media
2 Configuration
Environment: Windows RE (Recommended)
Media: USB flash drive (8GB or more)
3 Include These Components
✅ Macrium ReDeploy module
✅ BitLocker support (if enabled)
✅ Network and storage drivers
4 Build
Click Build → Creates a bootable Macrium Reflect recovery USB
⚠️ Important: Test your rescue media before you need it! Boot from the USB to ensure it works.
🧭 4. How to Boot & Restore
1 Preparation
Plug in your Rescue USB and Backup Drive (external disk)
Boot into BIOS → Set USB as first boot device
2 Boot & Select
Boot from Macrium Rescue Environment
Select "Restore" → "Browse for an image file" → choose your C: image (.mrimg)
3 Restore
Select the target disk (e.g., new SSD or HDD)
Click "Next" → "Finish" to restore the system image
🧩 5. Restoring to Different Hardware (ReDeploy)
If the new PC or laptop has different CPU, chipset, or storage controller, use ReDeploy:
1 Access ReDeploy
After restoring image → stay in Rescue environment
2 Launch ReDeploy
Go to Restore → ReDeploy Restored Image to New Hardware
3 Automated Scanning
Macrium Reflect scans for:
Storage drivers (SATA/NVMe)
Chipset/ACPI differences
Boot configuration
4 Driver Installation
If missing drivers, it prompts you to load drivers manually (from USB or local folder)
5 Finalize
Apply changes → reboot → Windows will start adapting to new hardware automatically
✅ ReDeploy allows your system image to boot on a different PC — ideal for migration or hardware replacement.
🚨 CRITICAL: Before Booting on New Hardware
• DO NOT BOOT THE RESTORED WINDOWS directly on the new machine
• After the image is restored, stay in the Macrium Rescue Environment
• Run ReDeploy BEFORE the first boot
💡 6. Notes & Best Practices
Task
Recommendation
Backup location
Use external SSD/HDD (not internal D:)
Schedule backups
Weekly incremental (optional)
Before restoring
Backup personal data (Documents, etc.)
If new disk is smaller
Use "Clone partitions and resize to fit"
ReDeploy limitation
Requires paid edition (Home, Workstation, or Server)
Licensing note
One license per machine (for legal use)
🔁 Alternative (Acronis Universal Restore)
Equivalent to Macrium ReDeploy
Available in Acronis True Image 2021 or later / Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office
Also restores system image to new hardware with driver injection
🚀 End Result
After restoring and running ReDeploy:
Your friend's PC will boot exactly like your setup — same apps, paths, registry, themes, CMD/Python environments, etc.
Only hardware-specific drivers (GPU, LAN, Wi-Fi) will reinstall automatically
🎉 Congratulations! You now have a complete system migration solution that preserves your entire development environment across hardware changes.
